The date is July 23, 1983 downtown Austin Texas. Chip McCain hosted the USPF NAtionals and all the greats were lifting. Gamble, Kaz, Pacifico, Frantz, Crain, Bridges and many many more.

As I have told this story before, while I was outside waiting in line to get in I kept feeling some dude bumping me while I was talking and finally I turned around and this dude was none other than John Gamble!!! Thank god he was nice as he was big...I mean way big and looked like he could really put some hurt on a person.

This happen to be some young nerdy looking guy's first National meet and I remember some buzz from some lifters that this guy missed weight by a pound or two and that he wanted to draw some blood to make weight??

As it turned out this guy lifted in the 181 and lifting against the great Mike Bridges and what was called the Bridges Squat Flare.
This guy would go on to become the greatest lifter in the history of powerlifting. Well now it is close to 25 years later and this same guy will be lifting again in the USPF Nationals in Vegas this August. It is reported that this will be his last meet and all I can say is I was there from the start and I will be there to the end. Wow how the hell he did it and stay on top for 25 years is crazy.

Thanks my friend, what a way to go!
