I believe he was originally an acrobat, seriously injured in a fall, and spent years rehabilitating himself. Became a strongman following his years of rehab from a state of partial paralysis. His motto apparently is "movement is life". These days he does a lot of work with people from around the world who have similar paralysis from accidents, who are beating a path to his door.
Count the plates on his squat bar. They add up to about the 460 stated. For this to be faked - the bar would have to be specially designed to look extremely "whippy" (I know it's an Olympic WL bar he is using - but nevertheless). Second, the plates would all have to be specially made to look like originals but in fact be very much lighter. Most important, he would have to be a very good actor - faking the body shake when supporting 460 in a leotard requires great acting talent. There is another explanation: which is that the feats are genuine, and this man is a phenomenon. I know that such a prospect does not appeal to the devotees of this forum, but it shouldn't be dismissed out of hand. I have always believed that the strongest people out there are just training for reasons other than competing. Which would explain why he doesn't come forward to replicate those lifts in a sanctioned competition - he probably isn't as interested in the competitive sport of powerlifting as the rest of us. For that matter he probably doesn't even read this forum.
