Awesome meet. Some fabulous lifting especially by Shawn Frankl, Greg Panora, Brian Schwab and Sergey Naleikin. Unbelievable Benching by Scott Yard. Lots of bombers ( Supers mainly) Sam Byrd did a sick 1050 squat at 198 but bombed on a 635 Bench Opener. Matt Smith did the highest squat at 1160 and missed his opener in the bench, then inexplicably scratched. Perhaps a small injury he didn't want to aggravate. Vogelpohl looked great, and had some balanced lifting. Horrific injury to Spud Bartley, lets all wish him well in his long road to recovery. Get Well Soon Spud! Chad Aichs tried and came up with 1225 squat, a tad high, some thought he should have had it. He maybe the only one with a legit shot at 1300. Venue was packed, visibility even from the front was limited. The meet itself was smoothly run with the minimum of problems. Tons of food, water, protein bars and stuff to be purchased by the audience, so no one went hungry. Judging was tough but fair.Good Job Louie and Mike Ferguson! This sort of meet deserved TV coverage, especially since there were some great foreign lifters present ( The Ukrainians, Allan Mehan from Canada, the Finns, etc) Missing were Ano and Jari from Finland, all of the Russians, Kutcher and Yarymbash from the Ukraine ( Kutcher couldn't come due to work issues and Yarymbash was not ready physically)I did interview Kutchers Coach Sergey Rhizuk at length over a few brews and spicy Mexican food( which he loved), and the results will be published in PLUSA soon. Thats about it!
