Also, Cole hated using tight gear. He told me that he felt that the squat should be an "athletic event" where the full range of motion would be used. He squatted 905 in a pair of coaches shorts,6 inch ACE bandages, and a standard belt. He squatted with a near Olympic stance, but used a lot of back on the ascent, just shy of the great pullers of the day( Anello and Gant). This "good-morning/squat" style also contributed to his unreal pulling ability as he was able to hoist 885 lbs, again in 1973. Supers of today would KILL to have an 885 pull to augment thier equipped 1100+ squats and 750+ bench Presses. His Big Saturday Workout, it should be noted took virtually the entire day- around 8 hours as he performed the Big Three, plus Inclines, Biceps/ Standing Triceps( a forgotten exercise) /Toe Raises( done in 3 positions)and Upright Rows, another forgotten exercise. Cole was also a Track Athlete( Throws) and at one time able to run a 10 second 100 yard ( not meter) dash, throw a baseball over 425 feet and take that same baseball and crack it like an apple!
