I Usually Stay Out Of Fed Arguments...

In Response To: Re: here's what can be learned (Jim Ray)

I've competed in tested and non-tested federations for a total of about 50 meets. I've worn single and multi-ply gear and finally settled on where I felt there existed a level playing field, the USAPL.

Though I was rarely beaten in untested feds, I decided to compete where my values were shared by the majority of the competitors. Since I'm a life-time drug-free lifter I'd rather go head to head with the best in the world in my age and weight class, knowing that when I walk away a winner, I won fair and square. If I lost, I got beaten fair and square with no complaints.

Most of us are in this sport because we love to compete. Period. Most of us never earn a dime from all the years of competing, yet are still as contented as those who stand in front of cameras with 6' long winner's checks.

I've always thought that since I'm already in the gym 4 days a week, why not be perpetually preparing for a meet? Makes the training more interesting and it's also a way to pass along lessons learned to younger lifters and bring new ones into the sport.

I prefer to live and let live, letting the juicers have their day in the sun, with both of us knowing that the expected duration of their lifting career may be somewhat shorter than us tested lifters but, hey, that's their choice and they and their loved ones have to live with the ramifications.

Just as I've learned that it's futile to try to turn a liberal into a conservative by arguing, I prefer not to waste my key strokes trying to convince others that my lifting/training/supplement/gear/fed choices are better than theirs. Somehow, when trying to do so, the dialogue inevitably spirals downward into negatie pissing matches, which I have to admit, are fun to read sometimes!:)

Carry on, men.
