Leaving a bad training situation

I trained in a large group which included a couple open world champions & world record holders. We trained in a weight room at a fitness center & had basically everything...monolift, belt squat, reverse hyper, 45 deg. back raise, all the bars, chains, everything & then the center threw us all out. Everybody went in small groups their own separate ways. I ended up with a small group, a couple friends & a few others I was not real friendly with. We ended up in the one guy's garage...I provided all the bars & some other equipment, another guy provided plates & a power rack, we hung lights, got a heater & we were off & running a couple winters ago. We even got a monolift. We were not without problems, but you get through it. After a while some of the people decided they would drink alcohol while training! Not a good idea, but one of the people was the guy who owned the garage. He also had his small kids running in & out of the garage while people were going for max deadlifts & squats. Not very safe or smart. The alcohol was drank pretty heavily on certain nights & even during squat sessions. This would have never been tolerated at the old gym. I inherited some money & decided to outfit my basement into a gym & it turned out far better than I had originally planned, I invited the group to train there occasionally, no one came...they said the gym is in the garage & they continue to drink & act stupid. After I competed in a meet recently in a lower weight class for the first time, the one guy came with me & helped me...thanks...some of the other people never asked me how it went...but they show up to "train" & act stupid...drink & gossip...I left. I now train alone...with zero regrets. You always hear the importance of training partners...very true, provided that everyone is for progress, not gossip, playing grabsass or drinking booze during training...the gym is a sacred place, it is not a baby sitting room or daycare center, it is not a tavern or a social club...you do not have to like everyone you train with...but you are there to get strong, to get others strong...period. This was the worst training situation I ever had the misfortune of being part of & thankfully I smartened up & got out of there. Like they say, "the church is not the building, it's the people"...the same can be said of a good power gym...it is the actions & behavior of the lifters, not the building or equipment.
