Thanks everyone for your input...Willy, my point is not what the alcohol does to them, but what it can do to me when I am benching in a double-ply shirt to the chest & the people spotting me are buzzed & not paying attention. People's reaction times to braking a car when they have been drinking are much decreased due to alcohol consumption...being a huge bencher yourself, you know how fast someone can lose a bar over their face...it is a matter of milliseconds that prevents someone fron getting up okay or going to the hospital. Also, I persoanlly believe when you are in a gym, training to powerlift in competitions, the main thing is the lifting...yeah, I bust chops & joke around like everyone else, but not to the detriment of the training...it has to come first & if a person or persons behavior effects the training of others negatively, something has to change or somebody has to go...I had to go. As far as children running around the gym, I am a parent of a young child as well, he has begun lifting & competing...I have taught him from day one that the gym is a sacred place...not a place for goofing off, there are places for goofing off & relaxing...a gym is not one of them. Besides that,a s a lifter...one is still a person, a person with limited time, many responsibilties other than lifting & lifting is really an outlet. In those few opportunities that a lifter has in a week to train, to gain...conditions should be as optimal as possible...it is not a time or place for partying, booze, little kids running amuck, personal problems, etc...want to drink? see if anyone wants to have a beer AFTER, want the kids around, have them come in AFTER, feel like gossiping? go to a coffee shop or a bar AFTER. There is a time & place for everything...when it is time to train & you are in the gym...it is time to be serious.
