Unification isn't going to help either. Back when there was only one federation (the AAU)powerlifting still couldn't get in the Olympics.
Sure a lot of people want unification but nobody is going to give up their share of the pie for the good of the sport.
They could still field an Olympic team even with all the federations. Set up the rules under an IOC banner. Then you invite the top 20 totals in each weight class from the previous 18 months prior to an Olympic year. If someone qualifys in more than one weight class they will have to declare their class ahead of time so each weight class would have 20 invites. Then you have an Olymic Trials meet and select your team.
