It was a great meet and much larger than I expected. The sport was at its best with nothing but comradery in the warm up room and platform.
I have to correct Courtney. My quest for the bench records failed. The first attempt was raw @ around 429 and went easy, the second 485 (full power record) got out of the groove and the 512.5 (single lift record)just wasn't there. I planned only to take a token squat taking the bar first, then for some unexplained reason took 435.2 raw for the second (red lighted for depth-referees fell asleep) and suited up for a successful 534.5. I surprised myself since I only went no higher than 425 in training only pacing my training partners. Nothing more than a token DL.
I would like to see Celli's team make a few posts here also. Ryan kicked ass and the Celli team was making strong high numbers.
What I really liked was being able to put a team (Mountaineer Iron Workers) back together for competition. Frankovitch is continually improving, Cook is a "project" in the making and Larkey and myself were the old dogs out of retirement. Knicely and my oldest son Robert were our handlers and I think this meet got them fired up also.
Being back in New Martinsville with a team, seeing the other teams and lifters like Courtney mentioned was deja vu from past years. Luke would have loved it. Memories eternal.
Great job by McCase and the USPF crew.
