If you have been diagnosed they should have told you it won't heal itself. I had an ubilical hernia last year. Its not as serious as the kind you have because of the location but its the same thing. The surgery does suck but you can be back training in about a month. Bottom line....GET THE SURGERY ASAP!!!!!
