That's a very well thought out and honest answer.

In a couple posts above this, when you said "murder is murder..........no matter who legalizes it..." it struck me that many from the Christian right probably wrestle with this same duality. On the one hand they you tend to be vehemently opposed to abortion, but most tend to be pro-death penalty. If you agree with this, why do you think that is so?

I'm guessing this particular view has it's roots in many of the Protestant churches teachings that emphasize punishing the sinner -- and the focus on the choice people make between heaven and hell, good and evil, and not much in between. Maybe this is where a lot of right wingers get those zealous comments such as, "You're either with us or against us" and "you're either with the terorists or with us" from. Their own religious upbringing tend to teach these extremes, and the good/evil battle that goes on all our lives for the ultimate possession of our soul.

I'm an Irish Catholic myself, and my church teaches us that abortion is murder, as is capital punishment. So for us Catholics the majority agree with your quote "murder is murder..........no matter who legalizes it..." For us there is no confusion with the duality of the two issues. The Catholic Church is against both. Not saying one religion is better than another, just pointing out the different perspective between two Christian religions. All faiths have their own faults. All religion is a human creation, structured to worship that which we believe to be sacred, and subject to faults because it is a human creation.

I'm not sure what my point here is, but your post that I'm replying to makes me think of these things. I thank you for writing so honestly. This just shows that our political views are shaped by many factors, religious beliefs being one.
