I understand things are different. What you need to do is compare lifters of the same powerlifting organization to each other...and NOT with other organizations.

A large part of the reason that there were so many elite lifter in the '60s, 70' and 80' couldn't wing a state or reginal meet was that anabolic steriods were prevalent and legal.

As my buddy Norris Wied of the 1970s and 1980s use to say, "Better lifting through chemistry."

As Pete Grymkowski (one of the best bodybuilder of the era) stated about anabolics, "If you liver don't quiver and you blatter don't spatter, UP the dosage".

Bruce Wilhelm (the US Heavyweight Olympic Lifter) even stated once that he remain competitive with the Russians as long as he had money for steriods.
