Thank you Mark and I am very honored! I was there competing in the '64 Olympic Trials in Flushing at the Worlds Fair. Although I was not there to witness this outstanding lift by Frank Capsouras I did hear about it after that days competition. I was preparing to lift and did not want to burn up a lot of energy sitting around watching the lifting before I lifted. I tried to keep a low key and relax before the heavyweight lifting. I had traveled to NY by train and wanted to rest up as much as I could from the tiring trip.
Just 5 years after these trials I roomed with Frank in Warsaw at the '69 World Championships. I also remember he had a very heavy foot when he was behind the wheel of his car, a Chevy Corvette Stingray. He scared me out of my skin one time in downtown York traveling almost 100 mph down on Market Street. Wow! was I ever glad to get out of that car! alive!
