The Measure of a Coach

There is a lot of shit being slung about on the forum for the last few weeks, with catapult this, science that, and plenty of condescension and hubris to go 'round. And it has been implied that without the right education, you couldn't possibly be a good coach. If all you have is gym experience, your eyes and an inquisitive and analytical mind, you apparently are an incompetent impostor teaching heresy.
If you coach in the NFL, there is one and only one measure of your coaching ability: winning. No one gives a rat's ass if you have a Ph.D, who you worked for as an assistant, or if you call cover two "rainbow coverage." All that matters is that you produce WINS. If you win, you are an NFL coach. If you don't, you will sink to the level of your abilities, but you will not be an NFL coach.
So, what makes a good weightlifting coach? Produce. Because we don't care about your education or your theories or your opinions if you do not. You send lifters to Nationals again and again, we care. You send lifters who win national meets and make international teams, we'll listen. You produce lifters who medal at international meets, you are a good weightlifting coach with something we are interested in hearing. If you don't, you are a guy who likes to hang out in gyms and talk about weightlifting.
I have sent a few lifters to Nationals. I have exactly one international level lifter to my credit. That barely qualifies me to call myself a competent coach. So what should I call all the guys talking shit about coaches who produce, when I haven't seen them with a lifter at Americans or Nationals EVER?
Ya got the answers to pull us up out of 27th place? Show us. Use what you know to produce lifters who can medal. Otherwise, WTF should we care what you know?
