Don't take your doctor's advice to heart. Their goal is to make sure you don't get ANY injury. My doctor thinks lifting any heavy weights is bad and wants me to not do 1 rm anymore. If any medical professional can help go see a sports therapist, at least they are supposed to get their patients back to their sport.

Also for powerlifting a 10 rm seems to be quite a few reps, you just might try to do less reps but more sets, this might help your shoulder some.

Also, where you bring the bar to on your chest can greatly effect your shoulder. I used to bench with a bodybuilding type of technique, brought the bar to my nipple line and pressed from there, this caused quite a bit of pain in heavier weights. I now bring the bar down right to the tip of my sternum and all the pain from my shoulder is gone, without having to see a doctor. And as an added benefit it helped to increase my bench.
