In Response To: Tips for Inzer Rage X Shirt (Kevin)

I also wear an Inzer Rage-X in competition several times per year. WARNING: To work with a bench shirt you'll need at least 2 other training partners to help get the shirt on, hold boards and give you lift-offs.

Here's how to get the shirt on and then break it in over a few months' period of time:

I carry a supply of Walmart grocery bags in my gear bag to use as slip-ons so the sleeves will pull all the way up. Tear the bottoms of the bags open, then put your hand through the bottom, holding the 2 handles between your thumb and forefinger with each hand. Sit on the bench press bench facing the bar, slide your right arm through the sleeve, pulling the bag up around your front delt while gripping the bar, while having someone grip the right shoulder and slide the sleeve up the bag to the crook or your arm. Then do the left arm. Once the top seam of each sleeve is near the top of the delt, pull the shirt over your head, having someone pull the back, sides and front all the way down.

Then, grip the bar while seated with one hand at a time while a helper continues to pull the sleeves all the way up and gets the wrinkles out. Lastly, have someone pull the front of the shirt down real hard, then clamp your belt. We use 2X4's to get the shirt seated. We carry 4 of the boards, each about 16" long. Have someone stack and hold 4 boards on your chest while someone gives you a lift-off with about 80% of your shirted max, lowering the bar slowly to touch, pause, then press. Repeat with singles off of 3, then 2, then 1 board, re-seating the shirt and tightening your belt after each attempt.

You may have to spray or dab on some hot water to the front of the delts and seams to get the shirt to stretch a little. Also, don't wash the shirt after using for maybe the first 4-6 times you wear it. When you do wash it, wash it and let it air dry to keep it from shrinking back and being too tight.

I always do 4-5 warm-ups sets raw, then pull the shirt on and do 6-8 board sets, starting with 3 board presses, then 2, then 1, then go back up to 3 boards to heavy singles. It's good for working your triceps an getting a competition shirt broken in. Click on the attached link, then click on 'Board Presses' under 'Bench Press Assists' to see how board presses are done.
